About the Château

The Château de la Valouze was the long-time residence of Paul Durand-Ruel, largely considered the most influential art dealer of the 19th Century.

Known as a key supporter of the Impressionist movement, Durand-Ruel played a crucial role in launching the careers of artists like Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley, all behemoths in the ever-so-exclusive pantheon of Impressionist luminaries. His work with such artists helped shape the international art market as we know it today.

This, his summer residence, away from the bustle of Paris, sits on 34 hectares of sprawling greenery, including a lake and a 400 year old oak, believed to be one of the oldest trees in France.

When we learned about the history of this venue, and envisioned the possibility of spending three days here with you, in one of the greatest wine-regions in the world, visited by the ghosts of the impressionist masters, and surrounded by unending nature, it felt like the perfect place to have our wedding.
